Apple AirPods explode in Tampa

Apple is investigating why one AirPod caught on fire in Florida

Colon says he noticed white smoke started billowing out of the right AirPod during his session. He quickly took them off and placed them down on a piece of gym equipment and went to go and fetch help, when he returned one of the AirPods appeared to have already exploded.

"I didn't you, know, see it happen, but I mean it was already fried", Colon said.

Thankfully, he reacted as soon as he sensed something was wrong.

WFLA reached out to Apple after Colon told his story.

The Apple AirPods are among many popular tech items that have turned life-threatening.

King Announces Lobster Emoji Officially Coming Soon
A formal request was submitted to the Unicode Consortium by King himself in September 2017, The Hill reported . King fittingly signed off the tweet with his name in emoji form: a cow for Angus and a crown for King.

Lithium-particle batteries are known to overheat and detonate, however while AirPods do contain batteries, it's not in any way obvious that they were the reason for whatever happened to Colon's. "But I'm sure that since it hangs down, it could've been [my] ear lobe, you know, my ear lobe could've been burnt".

They're not ideal, but for a first generation product, they're pretty good. A similar incident occurred in Australia when a battery inside a pair of wireless headphones exploded during a flight, and of course, there was the saga around the ill-fated Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

Production stopped later that year.

Mr Colon says he believes the gadget's battery was responsible for the damage. By the time he got back, one of the AirPods had blown up, he claims.

"Just because it happens to me doesn't mean it won't happen again", he said. Meanwhile, an Apple spokeswomen told a local Tampa television station that it will talk to Colon while it investigates what caused its wearable product to catch on fire.
