Kim Yo-jong, Kim Jong's sister to visit South Korea

2018 Winter Games

On Wednesday, the rogue state announced Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of leader Kim Jong Un, would be attending the games in South Korea, which open on Friday.

Kim Yo-jong will join a high-level North Korean delegation - that includes parliament president Kim Jong-nam - in traveling to PyeongChang for the ceremony, South Korea's Unification Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday night.

Pence has signalled that he'd be open to meeting with North Korean representatives attending the Games, while also saying the USA was ready to act against Kim's regime if necessary.

"We have never begged for dialogue with the United States and it will be the same going forward", KCNA reported on February 8, citing Cho Yong Sam, director-general of the North American department of North Korea's foreign ministry.

"And we will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Japan, the people of South Korea, and our allies and partners across the region until we achieve the global objective of denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula".

"And we will continue to isolate North Korea until it abandons its nuclear and ballistic missile programs once and for all", Pence said.

"As far as the situation with Korea, it is firmly in the diplomatic lane", Mattis told reporters at the White House, when asked if the prospect of conflict with Pyongyang was any nearer than when Trump took office a year ago.

South Korea says the decisions were inevitable for the success of the games, which it sees as an opportunity to revive meaningful communication with the North after an extended period of animosity and diplomatic stalemate.

Kim Yo Jong was blacklisted a year ago by the U.S. Treasury Department over human rights abuses and censorship.

It was the first time a Russian jet was shot down over Syria since Russia launched its air campaign on Assad's behalf. The fight ended with Filipov's move, according to the ministry: He blew himself up using a hand grenade.

Analysts said the parade seemed smaller than those of previous years, but was still focused on the North's goal of strengthening its nuclear missile capabilities. "Our delegation's visit to South Korea is only to take part in the Olympics and hail its successful holding". "As he also said, we will see what happens".

In South Korea, the North's flag and its national anthem are normally banned.

"With any other North Korean official, even the so-called No. 2 Choe Ryong Hae, you are getting a person who's just parroting orders given by Kim Jong Un", Hong said.

Pence has brought with him to the Games Fred Warmbier, the father of US citizen Otto Warmbier, who patronized the North Korean tourist industry before being arrested and tortured to death for allegedly tampering with a propaganda poster in Pyongyang.

Both Japan and South Korea are considered cornerstones of USA security and economic relationships in Asia.

Kim is taking as much care to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the foundation of the Korean People's Army as the Olympic planners are over the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics.

All the while, the three countries must together confront a North Korea problem that Straub says really hasn't changed.

Thousands of troops marched in formation carrying guns, bayonets and swords while leader Kim Jong Un watched from a balcony above.

Eager to put a reality check on the thaw in relations, Pence will meet Friday morning with North Korean defectors and pay respects at the Cheonan Memorial in Seoul, which honors the 46 South Korean sailors killed in a 2010 torpedo attack attributed to the North. He did not mention the United States, which North Korea considers its main enemy and regularly threatens to destroy in a sea of flames.
