At least 11 soldiers were killed and 13 wounded on Saturday in a suicide attack near an army base in northern Pakistan, officials said, in a region that was once controlled by a local faction of the Taliban.

A captain of the Pakistan Army was among the dead.Thirteen people were injured in the blast in Swat district's Kabal Tehsil.

"Three security officials embraced shahadat while 7 injured [in the blast]", said a statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), reports local media. The bomber detonated his explosives vest near an empty lot where soldiers were playing volleyball. All injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Although peace has returned to the valley after a military operation in 2009, security had been a primary concern in the region. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan spokesman Mohammad Khurasani claimed they had sent a young suicide bomber, Siddiqullah, to carry out the suicide attack on the military camp in Swat.

Revenues have also been stronger than expected, an indication that the improving global economy is translating into better sales. Some investors saw a potential buying opportunity. "Everyone has to remember we had a very over-extended market", O'Hare said.

At least two militants were killed during a search operation in December a year ago.

The security forces had cordoned off the area after the attack and had closed the main road for traffic.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has strongly condemned the suicide attack, the prime minister's office said. Earlier the Pakistani Taliban militants had strong influence in most parts of Swat.
