Ronald Koeman appointed coach of struggling Netherlands

Ronald Koeman has been appointed as the new manager of the Netherlands national side

Ronald Koeman has been announced as the new national team coach of the Netherlands, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract, the KNVB (Royal Dutch Football Association) confirmed.

Koeman made no secret of his desire to coach the Netherlands, and was disappointed not to have been appointed when Louis van Gaal left after the 2014 World Cup.

A legend with the Netherlands national team, Koeman was capped 78 times as a player and won the European Championship in 1988.

He admitted to reporters that "expectations are high" especially after two big defeats, "but we still have good players, and we have still a lot of talent".

Ronald Koeman on Tuesday was announced as the new manager of The Netherlands.

Uma Thurman, Harvey Weinstein, Pulp fiction, Kill Bill, Quentin Tarantino
Thurman says that she later confronted Weinstein about the incident, but "her memory of the incident abruptly stops there". Thurman then alleges that Tarantino and Miramax wouldn't give her the footage of the accident for almost 15 years.

Advocaat arrived in May for a third stint as national coach, but stepped down seven months later after failing to steer the struggling European heavyweights into the World Cup finals in Russian Federation.

The 54-year-old, who has been out of work since leaving Everton earlier in the season, has previously coached Vitesse, Ajax, Benfica, PSV, Valencia, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord and Southampton.

He was given the boot from Everton with the side 18th in the Premier League. He was sacked by Everton in October, two months into his second season in charge. "That's why I've taken the job".

That has given him time to spend back home in the Netherlands, drawing hope from watching young players in the Eredivisie.

His first assignment will be a friendly against England at the Amsterdam Arena on March 23, followed by a meeting with Portugal in Geneva three days later.
