Pak terrorist escapes, 2 cops killed in firing at Srinagar hospital

Jailed Pak LeT terrorist flees after hospital firing

Two gunmen opened fire Tuesday in a hospital in India-administered Kashmir where a Pakistani militant was brought for treatment, escaping with the high-profile prisoner and killing two police officers. He had a scuffle with escorting policemen and suddenly two persons appeared and opened fire.

In the course of firing, the Pakistani terrorist managed to escape and terrorists also fled from the point. One policeman died in the firing, while one became critically injured.

Further details are awaited.

Police said a manhunt has been launched for the prisoner, Naveed Jutt, who has been in Indian custody since 2014.

A carbine rifle of one of the policeman was reported missing, an official said. Out of them, one snatched weapons from the police and fired at the protection party.

Two Lashkar militants rained bullets at the police party and fled towards downtown Srinagar.

The incident spread panic in Kashmir Valley's premiere government hospital in Kaka Sarai area.

Naveed was close associate of Abu Qasim, a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander who was killed in 2015 in a encounter in south Kashmir.

Within seconds after the sensational escape, the police and other security agencies have cordoned off the hospital and right now searches are going on.

These include an attack on the Army in Hyderpora in the city, an attack on the Silver Star hotel along the national highway outside Srinagar and three attacks on police and CRPF camps in south Kashmir.
