No Windows 10, no Office 2019, says Microsoft

Microsoft Office 2019 will run only on Windows 10

Nearly one year ago, Windows 10 officially surpassed Windows 7 in the Europe. As per latest estimates, for the first time, the newer version of the popular OS overtook the eight-year-old version.

Office 2019 will get the usual period of standard support, but just two years of extended support. This will bring its end of life date to October 10, 2025, the same day that extended support for Microsoft Office 2016, the last version of the suite, ends.

Microsoft's reason for this change is keeping Windows 10 and ProPlus in synch for security reasons. However mainstream support will remain the same at five years.

Microsoft's revealed that Office 2019's desktop applications will only run on Windows 10 and shorted support for the forthcoming release of the suite.

Thurrott.com is reporting that Microsoft seems to be planning to allow Windows 10 Home users to move from S to Home for free.

The quote-unquote "best loss of the season" needed to be followed by a win, and after some anxious moments, the Celtics delivered. The veteran forward appeared in only seven games this season entering Tuesday, playing a total of 50 minutes. "They're talented.

Then again, when you ask NetMarketShare, another analytics firm, Windows 7 leads Windows 10 in worldwide usage by 8 percent, though the difference has narrowed from 20 percent a year ago.

Microsoft is clamping down on free software which it says "pressures" users into paying for unnecessary upgrades.

Microsoft also announced yesterday that it will support the latest three releases of Windows 10 - builds 1607, 1703 and 1709 - for an additional six months.

For Microsoft, it's a support nightmare. Microsoft will keep developing the tools until they're passing the company's quality checks after which they will release the final version of Office 2019. Although the Windows Store will try to suggest alternatives to software that isn't available there, if there's a particular program that Windows users want that isn't replaceable then unlocking the Windows 10 S machine to Windows 10 is the only answer.

Others viewed Microsoft's decision as a harbinger of an Office 365-only world. It doesn't handle high-resolution displays (or multiple-monitors) very well, there's no built-in support for things like fingerprint readers or Windows Hello facial recognition, and trying to use a touchscreen on something running Windows 7 could be considered a form of cruel and unusual punishment. Statcounter focuses purely on Windows versions while others take into account all desktop operating systems including macOS and Linux.
