National Wear Red Day raises awareness for heart disease

Red hats at Greenville Memorial Hospital to raise awareness about Congenital Heart Disease

To educate and raise funds, Lands' End has launched the Wear Red Campaign in support of the American Heart Association's Life is Why We Give™.

That's more than all cancers combined.

Heart Disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the USA - accounting for 1 in 3 deaths each year. About 80% of cardiovascular diseases may be prevented.

Kris Zeller, co-chair of the 2018 Quad Cities Heart Ball joined FOX 18's Brittany Price in studio to explain how people can get involved and how this day of awareness can make a difference. The $15 event begins at 7 a.m. and will offer the following screenings: cholesterol, glucose (blood sugar), blood pressure, heart risk assessment, EKG (based on individual risk), height, weight, BMI, and body fat calculations. 80 percent of cases of women's heart disease could be prevented with education and action, the Association says.

The easiest way to participate is by simply wearing red.
