Three dead after helicopter crashes into California home

Helicopter crashes into home in Newport Beach gated community

At least three people were killed and two others injured when a helicopter crashed on Tuesday into a house in California, US.

The helicopter struck the yard and side wall of a home, and another home across the street had part of the tail rotor stuck in its tiled roof, according to KABC.

A nearby resident told the local ABC7 news channel it "sounded like a train coming through".

"We tried to pry them out but we didn't want to touch them".

Patti Faubion, another witness, described a similar scene. She ran outside and saw a chaotic and gruesome sight. Newport Beach police said there were four people on the aircraft and it does not initially appear as if anyone on the ground was injured.

Hawaii employee who sent false missile alert fired; top official resigns
The day-shift supervisor thought the test was aimed at outgoing night-shift workers and was unprepared to supervise the test. Another issue was that the software in use at Hawaii's emergency agency used the same prompts for real alerts and for tests.

Police tweeted that five people were involved in the crash, including one bystander. It was not immediately clear whether those who died were all passengers or included a bystander. A woman who lives in the neighborhood heard the crash and ran outside to witness the immediate aftermath.

The helicopter is owned by Spitzer Helicopter LLC of Canyon Lake in Riverside County.

The John Wayne Airport confirmed the Robinson 44 helicopter had four passengers on board when it crashed just one mile southeast of the airport.

According to the company's website, Revolution Aviation has been operating since the 1960's, offering pilot-training and sightseeing trips. The website boasts a 100 per cent safety record.

The airport is about 1.6 kilometres from the crash site.
