SpaceX will reportedly launch its Falcon Heavy rocket on February 6th

SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket test firing goes off without a hitch

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said in a tweet after the static fire test that the heavy lift rocket's maiden voyage could happen in "a week or so", although launches usually happen about two weeks after a static fire text.

The Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, is now selling tickets to view the launch of SpaceX's largest rocket, the Falcon Heavy, which carries with it humanity's ambition to land astronauts on Mars. If successful, his red sports auto will end up in orbit around the sun, travelling as far out as Mars.

According to the Verge, the Falcon Heavy will carry Elon Musk's personal Tesla roadster as its virgin payload, carrying the electric auto into an orbit around the sun that is the same distance away as Mars' orbit.

And it has some symbolism since the Roadster is considered by many EV enthusiasts as the vehicle that launched the EV revolution. It is seen as the world's most powerful rocket since NASA's Saturn V.

"The Falcon Heavy engines appeared to fire for more than ten seconds", Spaceflight Now reported.

MSU's Lou Anna Simon resigns over Nassar scandal
He later walked that back, Skubick said, to say they needed to be evaluated on how they handle decisions after Simon's leaving. Simon and her administration had successfully tamped down indignation over MSU's role in the Larry Nassar sex-abuse scandal.

For this first launch, the outer rocket cores are refurbished Falcon 9 first-stage boosters from previous launches. The three boosters can generate 5 million pounds of thrust at liftoff - equivalent to eighteen 747 aircraft. SpaceX points out that it could put a Boeing 737 jetliner in orbit, fully loaded with passengers, luggage and fuel. If the SES-16/GovSat 1 mission delays, so will Falcon Heavy.

The solidification of Falcon Heavy's first true launch date has unsurprisingly proceeded only after the massive rocket's first static fire, a momentous moment captured in person by Teslarati photographer Tom Cross.

The megarocket successfully ignited all of its 27 engines at once.

SpaceX expects the Falcon Heavy to eventually ferry crew and cargo between Earth and Mars.

NASASpaceFlight reports SpaceX is preparing for a possible launch on February 6, with a backup date of February 7.
