Apple's Next iOS To Add Battery Monitoring, Business Chat, AR Tools

iPhone users will be able to download medical records from hospitals after Apple software update

The update adds a new "Health Records" section to the app, allowing users to access their medical records from several providers in one place.

According to this same report, courtesy of Bloomberg, Apple won't adopt the same OLED tech used for the iPhone X, noting that "technical and financial constraints" means will probably stick with the LCD tech found on current iPad models.

Business Chat is apparently Apple's way of catching up with a new social media practice that's been on the rise in which companies use Facebook Messenger to communicate with customers and others, especially for things like customer service.

iOS 11.3 will not only allow users to check to see if the so-called "power management feature" that limits the maximum power output to prevent unexpected shutdowns is enabled, but will also let them to switch it off.

The software update will also let iPhone users access their hospital health records, adds new animated emojis for the iPhone X, and new video features for the Apple Music service and the news-reading app.

Correction: A previous version of this story stated that the Health Records feature, located within the Health app, will be accessible on the iPhone and Apple Watch. Apple says it's enhancing augmented reality features in the OS with an upgrade of ARKit to 1.5, which will provide better use of real-world objects and greater flexibility.

Are you looking forward to release of iOS 11.3?

Notably absent from the announcement for iOS 11.3 is any mention of major security improvements.

With Business Chat, consumers can conduct a conversation with a company representative, schedule an appointment or make purchases using Apple Pay in the messages app. Business Chat doesn't share the user's contact information with businesses, Apple stated, and users can exit a chat at any time.

The health records will include information on immunizations, medications, allergies, vitals, lab results, procedures and conditions. "Health Records data is encrypted and protected with a passcode", the company revealed.

Interestingly, Apple looks set to take on WhatsApp's new, something that Facebook has also tried its hand at with bots and more for businesses in Messenger. Some of the highlights include updates to ARKit, Animoji, and more.

Starting on February 9, a new feature will be available - HomePod. The iOS 11 pre-release betas also referenced "modern iPhone" prior to the release of the iPhone X.
