Apple is reportedly overhauling iBooks in a bid to go after Amazon

Apple is said to ready revamped e-books push against Amazon

With the release of the iOS 11.3 developer beta, Apple changed the name of the app from "iBooks" to "Books". Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook past year set a goal of doubling revenues from mobile services by 2020. The iBooks app remains one of the few Apple programs that hasn't received a significant update in years.

These will include a simpler interface, a look that resembles the App Store, a dedicated tab for audio books and a new section called "Reading Now".

The iPhone X could see a new digital book app in the future. Bloomberg's report describes it having a "simpler interface" that emphasizes books the user is now reading.

Arsenal's big December signing influences pursuit of Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang
The Gabonese striker looks certain to join Arsenal in the next few days, with Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc travelling to London on Saturday.

Apple moved its attention on the services side to Apple Music, iTunes and the App Store, but the company will need to expand its reach if it plans to generate $50 billion in revenue by 2021, as Tim Cook says it will.

Apple has also reportedly hired a lead executive from Audible, the Amazon-owned audiobook platform, to help reinvigorate its e-book efforts.

Clearly Apple doesn't want to miss the chance to capitalize on the e-book and audiobook market, which has become increasingly popular but is also now dominated by Amazon. Furthermore, Apple's e-book business took a hit in 2014 after the U.S. Department of Justice fined the company $450 million as part of an antitrust lawsuit that involved five major publishers. Unlike many online publications, we don't have a paywall or run banner advertising, because we want to keep our journalism open, without influence or the need to chase traffic.
