Sanchez's move to Man U was for money, Wenger declares

United's No 7 has adorned some legendary players over the years such as Eric Cantona

Manchester United and Arsenal are expected to imminently confirm a swap deal that will see Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan move between the two clubs.

Chile forward Sanchez, 29, who nearly joined Manchester City last summer, has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal.

It appears Sanchez will soon be unveiled as a Man United player, after Jose Mourinho revealed on Saturday his move from Arsenal is "so close" and he was later pictured in a United shirt. "He's a special player and the sort that doesn't come around that often, and I'd say United's hopes of winning their fourth European trophy have just got a lot more likely".

The Mirror have now published a photo [above] of Sanchez arriving at United's Carrington training base where he's due to undergo his medical and complete his move to Old Trafford.

Mkhitaryan, who British media said had signed a 3-1/2 year contract at The Emirates, was a regular in United's first XI at the start of this season but fell out of favour under Mourinho and had started only one of their past 13 league games. "Now that I'm here, I'll do my best for this club to create history", said Mkhitaryan. In short, both clubs seem to be signing a player who will slot well into their existing system.

But such a big name signing - with such an expenditure, rumoured to be somewhere approaching £500,000 per week in wages, the most in the Premier League - is going to put Mourinho and his team under even more scrutiny.

Snap CEO Evan Spiegel explained what's coming in a video made late past year ; expect to see some fairly big changes pretty soon. As with the app, Official Stories will only be viewable for 24 hours, while other stories will be available for 30 days.

The Armenia global scored 23 goals and set up 32 more in his last season at Dortmund but failed to reproduce anything close to those numbers at United.

Perhaps there is an element of reverse psychology in Mourinho's thinking and he does it to provoke a positive reaction from his players.

After a transfer saga that dragged on for months, the United boss may understandably be feeling smug that he has finally got his man - and offloaded Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the same time. He has five goals in 39 league appearances for United, rarely completing 90 minutes.

"I always loved the way that Arsenal played and the way that Arsene Wenger has managed the team".

Smalling and United are next in action on Friday night at Yeovil Town in the FA Cup fourth round.
