Jimmy Kimmel Zings 'Monster' Harvey Weinstein In Oscar Nominations Recap

FilmAcademy Award Nominations The Complete List The Oscars nominations list is outabc by: John Stewart

While Jimmy Kimmel will be returning to host the Academy Award this year, it took a bit of convincing to get him on board.

Host Jimmy Kimmel reacts to the news that the wrong movie had been announced as victor of the Best Picture award during the 89th Annual Academy Awards, Feb. 26, 2017, in Los Angeles.

(Given the intense plan the Academy has in place to prevent another envelope mix-up, hopefully that'll be a one-time ordeal for Kimmel.) The most-nominated film, Kimmel noted, is Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water, "which racked up 13 nods- including best picture, best director, and outstanding achievement in fish penis design", Kimmel joked. "He got nominated for his short film 'Dear Basketball, ' which could be the closest we get to seeing the Lakers win something this year". "I like that movie and finally Hollywood is recognizing a monster other than Harvey Weinstein".

CNN wasn't alone in who had trouble keeping the actual Best Picture nominees straight, as Jimmy Kimmel slipped in an extra one as well. And as Jimmy Kimmel reviewed the nominations Tuesday night, he might have been giving a sneak peek of sorts as to what his second turn as host will look like.

It's a scene that will play over and over in many cinephiles' heads whenever they think of the Oscars: the ecstatic faces of the La La Land team transforming into confused shock, the star-studded audience's jaws dropping, those fateful words: "There's a mistake".

On "The Daily Show", host Trevor Noah acknowledged the Academy for attempting to diversify the nominations after receiving complaints from viewers who said people of color were being overlooked.

Sanchez's move to Man U was for money, Wenger declares
Chile forward Sanchez, 29, who nearly joined Manchester City last summer, has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal. Smalling and United are next in action on Friday night at Yeovil Town in the FA Cup fourth round.

Colbert mentioned nominated directors Jordan Peele and Greta Gerwig, as well as veteran actress Meryl Streep.

"This year Oscars are renominating "La-la Land" [just] to take the Oscar away from it again", Noah said.

How will the 2018 Oscars handle the #MeToo movement and the Time's Up initiative? "For instance, the Oscar statue will now be fully clothed", Colbert said. "I hope he's seen 'Get Out'".

It's Oscar nominations morning - and if you didn't already know that, you're probably not going to be nominated this year, dah-ling.

As Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. views it, #OscarsSoWhite is getting replaced with #OscarsSoSorry.
