Chelsea close to securing £20m deal for Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri

Wise was known for his tough-tackling

Emerson Palmieri has been eyed by Antonio Conte to strengthen his defense and bring someone who can provide competition for their current first choice Marcos Alonso.

Palmieri was a subject of interest last season as well, with reports coming that Inter Milan and Liverpool interested in him, the left back made a decision to stay in Roma and said that he is happy in Rome. Our season is stagnating and we need to use this transfer window wisely to kick-start our campaign ahead of our Champions League clash with Barcelona.

Chelsea have enquired over the availability of Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri, having grown frustrated in their pursuit of Alex Sandro, the Evening Standard have reported.

"The two clubs are in talks and we hope to finalize the deal soon".

The story also claims that Roma are likely to demand a transfer fee of around £22m for Emerson this month.

Garcia did however add "nothing is certain" with the clubs still deep in discussion and will wait for further developments before travelling to Italy himself.

"It would be a dream: Conte is a top manager, one of the best and most successful in the world".

Reports earlier this week suggested Chelsea were in talks about signing Andy Carroll on loan but West Ham are reportedly only looking to sell on a permanent basis if £20m is put on the table.

Emerson has only played twice for Roma since returning from a serious knee injury at the start of December, but he did make 25 appearances in Serie A last term.
