Kristen Wiig to Star in Apple Comedy Series From Reese Witherspoon

It's one of three projects Apple has ordered from Witherspoon's company, joining true-crime podcast drama "Are You Sleeping?" and a yet-unnamed behind-the-scenes drama about television morning shows, starring Witherspoon and "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston. Colleen McGuinness ("30 Rock") created the series and will be the showrunner.

Their salaries also included fees for being executive producers and points on the backend. Sittenfeld will serve as a consulting producer.

As it continues to spend heavily on original programs, Apple has picked up its first scripted comedy series. Apple paid over $1.25 million per episode to Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon for its now untitled 20-episode drama about a TV morning show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Wiig finished her seventh and final season as a cast member in 2012 and went on to act in movies like Ghostbusters, Masterminds, The Martian, and Welcome To Me.

However, THR states that Apple does not actually own the show, as a yet-to-be-decided studio will hold that claim instead. There's also Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston's untitled drama, centering around a cutthroat morning talk show, à la Today or Good Morning America.

Most of the principal actresses on HBO's Big Little Lies will get a considerable pay rise for season two.

They also have announced an in-the-works space drama from "Battlestar Galactica" executive producer Ronald D. Moore, an "Amazing Stories" reboot with Steven Spielberg and what it calls an "epic, world-building drama" called "See" from "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight.
