Judges revolt against Chief Justice, government to not intervene

Full court must be called to discuss SC situation Ex-judges

They wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra in which they expressed concerns over the functioning of the Supreme Court. However, there were reports on Friday that he may address a press conference but that could not take place.

"There's no question of selling their souls".

CJI Dipak Misra has not responded to the allegations. The Congress also asked that the senior-most judges of the Supreme Court should hear the petition that sought an inquiry into the death of Judge Brij Gopal Loya in 2014.

The latest move unfolds as one of the apex court judges Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar is on leave. The remarks assume significance as the apex court earlier in the day took up for consideration the issue of alleged mysterious death of special CBI judge B H Loya, who was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh "fake encounter" case.

A case in point is the medical admission scam, where a bench headed by Justice Chelameswar referred the case to a constitutional bench but the CJI asserted his right as the master of the roster and put together a five-judge bench reversing Justice Chelameswar's order.

They feel there was no occasion for the bench to make any observation with regard to the finalisation of the MoP.

General Motors Plans to Introduce Completely Driverless Cars by Next Year (GM)
However, GM President Dan Ammann told The Verge GM that the company might "meet that standard in a different kind of way". News about driverless or automated cars is pretty routine now, even from companies that don't even make cars .

On Friday, justices Jasti Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph, the four most senior judges in the country after Misra, openly protested against the chief justice bypassing established traditions in court to assign cases to benches.

Is this the case that left the judges aggrieved?

Sitting judges of India's top court, a decorated and powerful establishment, hardly ever interact with media, abiding by an unwritten custom to protect the integrity of their judgments. That the Supreme Court senior judges have blown the lid off is praiseworthy and it's for the nation to decide whether they need democracy and cherish its freedom or they would rather look to newer methods of governance even by losing all their democratic privileges. "It was an internal affair of the judiciary", BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said.

Talking to ANI, Vikas Singh said, "It is a matter of grave concern". He said the matter should not be politicised. Sad. exposition of trouble in Supreme Court. He had for some time been opposing the Collegium system and had complained that judicial appointments were many a time being made arbitrarily and to dole out favours to some people.

While several parties have said that the Centre should not intervene in the matter, Mishra said that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and law minister on Friday said that it was an internal matter of the judiciary and the government will not interfere.
