The Raiders released a one-sentence statement with their tweet: "The Oakland Raiders will host a press conference at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 9 to officially introduce Jon Gruden as the new head coach of the Silver and Black".

The news broke just hours after Gruden finished announcing the Kansas City and Tennessee wild-card game on Saturday.

Gruden coached the Raiders from 1998 to 2001 before being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and capturing Super Bowl XXXVII.

Gruden holds a 95-81 regular-season record as a head coach and a 5-4 mark in the postseason. "It'll be tough for a lot of us on the crew to be impartial when we go into those production meetings and see you next year". Late owner Al Davis hired Art Shell in 2006, 11 years after firing him the first time.

In 2008, the Super Bowl-winning Head Coach parted ways with the Buccaneers, and ventured into the broadcast booth.
