Fodder Scam verdict: JDU calls it a 'historic decision in Bihar politics'

The special CBI court in Ranchi pronounced three and half years imprisonment for RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in a fodder scam case on Saturday.

"In India, is Fodder scam the only scam? It is clear that the BJP-RSS combine is scared of Lalu even while he is in jail and is doing all that it can to silence Lalu's voice", said Tejashwi, while addressing a press conference. Today's hearing on the quantum of sentence pertains to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Deoghar Treasury when Lalu Yadav was the CM of Bihar between 1991 and 1994.

CBI court judge Shiv Pal Singh, who had convicted Prasad, along with 10 others on December 23, also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on him for two cases in the scam.

He was convicted by the court on December 23, 2017, and has been lodged in Birsa Munda prison since then.

Lalu Prasad Yadav was convicted in the multi-million-rupee fodder scam.

In fact, Lalu's other son, Tej Pratap Yadav is confident that his father will definitely get a bail. The Special CBI Court was supposed to sentence the convicts on January 3. The court also imposed Rs 5 Lakh fine on Lalu.

In 1996, the Patna High Court had ordered an inquiry into the fodder scam cases and a charge sheet in the Deogarh Treasury case was filed against 38 people on October 27, 1997.

If the quantum of sentence was less than three years, thebail plea would have been moved before the trial court itself, he said. His son Tejashwi Yadav said that they will approach the high court and also apply for bail after studying the sentence.

"This is the end of a chapter that started with Laluji's leadership, where there was politics of corruption, nepotism and non-governance", Tyagi told reporters.

At the emergency meeting of the party today, Tejashwi Yadav said the people were with Lalu Yadav.
