Jack Del Rio Fired by Mark Davis After Raiders' Loss to Chargers

JDR announces that he will not be returning as head coach next year.

ALAMEDA, Calif. - Jack Del Rio has been fired as coach of the Oakland Raiders, ending his three-year tenure after a disappointing 6-10 record this season. Del Rio had signed a four-year contract extension last February after Oakland ended a 13-year playoff drought with a 12-win season last year. However, the pieces are in place for the Raiders to get back to the consistent success they have maintained throughout most of the franchise's history.

The Del Rio firing comes on the heels of reports that Raiders owner Mark Davis is willing to offer Jon Gruden the head coaching position. Under first-year coordinator Todd Downing, the group appeared to take a step back, particularly Carr and receiver Amari Cooper.
