Weather Advisory: Snow and blowing snow for Christmas Day

Snow, sleet and freezing rain may be seen to the north, though rain is mainly expected in the city and points south, CBS2's Elise Finch reported.

Lake effect snow is likely to continue through Tuesday in the Southtowns and Southern Tier.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 8pm Monday for counties including Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans and Wayne.

Winter Weather Advisory: in effect for Roscommon County until 7 AM Tuesday. However, if you're planning on traveling closer to 9-10 AM and onward into the afternoon and evening, especially in those advisory counties, prepare for some extra time.

"Lake effect snow showers develop today with additional accumulations up to 2".

Isaiah Thomas reportedly looking to scrimmage with Canton Charge
The targeted time period is especially notable because the Cavaliers face Irving and the Celtics on January 3 in Boston. The Cavs are scheduled to hold a practice in San Francisco on Christmas Eve.

"Scattered snow showers tonight with additional snowfall of 1" or less.

It's worth noting that plenty of areas in West Michigan and the lake-effect snow belts of northwest lower Michigan will be dealing with lake-effect snow too, so be sure to travel cautiously if traveling west today.

Meanwhile, a wind advisory has also been issued for the entire Tri-State Area from 6 a.m.to 6 p.m. Monday. Wind chills near or below 0° for much of the day. Cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.

Light to moderate snow will taper off early in the day. The coldest temperatures are expected Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, with winchill values of 10 to 15 degrees below zero possible.
