United States to Officially Blame North Korea for Wannacry Cyber Attack

North Korea issue WW3 threat to Donald Trump

The Washington Post cited a United States official as saying Trump's administration would be urging allies to counter North Korea's cyberattack capabilities and implement all "relevant" UN Security Council sanctions.

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed titled "It's Official: North Korea Is Behind WannaCry", White House Homeland Security advisor Tom Bossert claimed on Monday that the US's findings in their investigation are "based on evidence". As NPR's Bill Chappell reported at the time, WannaCry was found to have "lines of code that are identical to work by hackers known as the Lazarus Group, [which has] ... been linked to North Korea, raising suspicions that the nation could be responsible". But the shaming is created to hold North Korea accountable for its actions and "erode and undercut their ability to launch attacks", the official said.

North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) published Monday a commentary entitled "Trump Should Cool His Jets and Face Up to Reality".

Cyber risk modeling firm Cyence estimates the potential costs from the hack at $4 billion, while other groups predict losses would be in the hundreds of millions. Kim Jong Un has substantially improved his country's nuclear and ballistic weapons arsenal, threatening to counter any USA attempt to invade by force. The malware infected over 300,000 computers in 150 different countries.

Deputy Attorney General Defends Robert Mueller To Congress
Kenneth Starr, who tirelessly investigated the contents and activities of what was in Bill Clinton's trousers , was a Republican. Reports this past summer found that several of the lawyers on Mueller's team donated to Democrats.

FedEx's computer networks were among the most heavily hit. In further defiance of Trump's warnings, Kim also oversaw the launches of North Korea's first intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) in July and launched a third, higher one late last month, showing the country was likely capable of striking any target in the U.S. The senior administration official declined to comment about whether USA intelligence was able to discern if the attack was deliberate.

North Korea urged President Donald Trump to ease his hardline stance against the reclusive, militarized state, warning that the Republican leader's actions has brought the world to the brink of an all-out nuclear war. Earlier this month, North Korea said it had successfully tested a breakthrough intercontinental ballistic missile that could place the entire USA mainland within range of its nuclear weapons.

"What we see is a continued pattern of North Korea misbehaving, whether destructive cyber attacks, hacking for financial gain, or targeting infrastructure around the globe", the official said.
