Jeremy Pruitt to be named Tennessee head coach

Jeremy Pruitt is Tennessee's final answer to the strangest coaching search

Sure, there is always a risk when hiring a head coach, especially one who has no experience, but Pruitt has lived for football, he has been around the best (including his father) and failure is not a word he likes to say or hear.

He will take over for Butch Jones, who the Vols fired on November 12 following a 50-17 loss to Missouri. "I'm certain he appreciates the unique opportunity to lead a program of Tennessee's caliber". Fulmer took over for John Currie, who was suspended just eight months into the job as Tennessee investigates whether it can fire him for cause. He's driven to win at the highest level.

His two years has seen Alabama collect 83 sacks, 198 tackles for loss, 131 quarterback hurries, 108 pass breakups, 39 total turnovers and 12 defensive touchdowns. Pruitt left the program for Alabama before the Bulldogs' TaxSlayer Bowl game against Penn State.

A former defensive back at Alabama, Pruitt served two different stints on the Crimson Tide staff under Saban.

Net Neutrality vote must wait until conclusion of comment investigation, Schneiderman says
Schneiderman says his office requested the actual comments records from the FCC numerous times but so far the FCC has not complied.

Volquest reports Pruitt began his career as a high school coach at multiple Alabama schools, working his way up into the college ranks through his ability to connect with people and his intense work ethic. Pruitt spent time as the director of player development from 2007-2009.

Pruitt, 43, is a two-time Broyles Award finalist as the top assistant coach in college football. The Seminoles led the nation in scoring defense that season en route to a national championship. Once word leaked that Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano had been tabbed for the job, an outcry from alumni, fans, former players and politicians ultimately squashed the deal.

Currie met last week with Washington State's Mike Leach and was forced out the next day.

Tennessee has won six national titles and 16 SEC crowns. He is viewed as one of the Crimson Tide's top recruiters and was named Rivals Recruiter of the Year during 2010 while serving as the defensive line coach at California. This marks Tennessee's fourth coaching search since Fulmer was forced out in 2008.
