The Nvidia Shield Finally Comes to China, Complete with Nintendo Games

Hopefully Nintendo and NVIDIA will see sense and release them in all territories before long though.

Way back in January we reported on a rumor that Nintendo was working with Nvidia to bring New Super Mario Bros. Not only are the emulators available for its entire back catalogue of machines, but even Wii U games now run pretty smoothly on high-end PC gaming rigs thanks to the popular (and, it must be said, quite complicated) CEMU emulation software. All these games are running in HD and cost a mere $10 each (RMB 68).

There's more video of NSMB in action here.

China is the world's largest gaming market with forecast revenues of US$27.5 billion this year, equal to one quarter of the global share, according to research firm Newzoo.

'Icarus' Filmmakers "Applaud" IOC's Decision To Bar Russia From 2018 Olympic Games
The IOC also imposed lifetime Olympic ban on Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko, organizer of soccer's 2018 World Cup. However, they will allow athletes to compete in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang after approval by an IOC panel.

Details regarding the partnership are still hazy, but at least three Nintendo games are now available on the Nvidia Shield TV, including New Super Mario Bros. Unfortunately, it seems that this will likely remain China-exclusive permanently, as all communications from Nvidia and Nintendo indicate that it's specifically targeted at Chinese audiences.

Nintendo has partnered with hardware manufacturer Nvidia in Japan to bring several games over to the Nvidia Shield. Are you interested in playing Nintendo GameCube or Wii games on the NVIDIA Shield? There is no word on if these games will come to the SHIELD in other countries (like the United States). New Super Mario Bros.

Tapping China could be a masterstroke from Nintendo, given the fact that it is reportedly home to over 300 million gamers. While this does mean the Shield can comfortably play Wii games, it's hard to gauge if Nintendo will bring games to Shield in the United Kingdom, or simply reserve them exclusively for Switch instead.
