Police Suspect 'Foul Play' in Lincoln Woman's Death

Sydney Loofe

"We are indeed conducting a very thorough investigation to ensure we can provide an accurate account of what happened to Sydney", said Randy Thysse, special agent in charge of the FBI field office in Omaha, during a news conference at the Hall of Justice in Lincoln.

Details regarding how Loofe's body was found have not been released.

Loofe's cell phone was last pinged in Wilber, NE, where one of the two has an apartment.

The remains were found in a rural area in Clay County after investigators followed "digital evidence", Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said during a press conference Tuesday.

Officials are waiting for the results of an autopsy.

Investigators would not get more specific about the area where Loofe's body was found, other than to say it was an open area, and not in an urban environment.

Police have identified two people of interest in the case: 51-year-old Aubrey Trail and 23-year-old Bailey Boswell, a single mom who went on two dates with Loofe the week she vanished.

In a second video-posted Friday before the pair turned themselves into authorities following an arrest warrant accusing Trail of being a felon in possession of a firearm-Trail denied his and Boswell's involvement in Loofe's disappearance.

Police say Loofe last contacted her family November 15 when she sent a Snapchat about being excited for a date. Last week, before they were arrested in Missouri, Boswell and Trail posted several videos on social media, with Boswell confirming she was with Loofe on the last night she was seen.

In the video, Boswell covers her head with a hooded sweatshirt and wears large-rimmed sunglasses.

Trail, who has lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, left a South Dakota prison in 2005 after serving time for theft in Pennington County.

The parents of missing United States woman Sydney Loofe set up a Facebook page called Finding Sydney Loofe.

A lawyer whom Trail mentioned in the video, Douglas Werz, said in a statement that he had not been hired by the man.

'You've already crucified us in the newspapers.

"We're not trying to defend anything", he said. She speaks only for a few minutes at the end of the clip, recalling her two dates with Loofe, who she calls a "sweet and awesome girl". She said that she met Loofe "on a Tuesday", and she picked her up from her home. On the 15th, she says she brought her back to her home in Wilber where they smoked marijuana wax and shatter - concentrated forms of the drug. "I gave her my number, we were planning on going to the casino that weekend". Family and friends have said she went on a date the night before with someone she met online. Under "Person you admire most and why", she listed her parents "for everything they've done for me". "She added that she 'didn't have anything to do with" her disappearance.

Trail said they have been speaking with investigators and have nothing to hide.

They added that they have been speaking to Trail while he's behind bars. "But as far as the police department, fuck you".

Sydney Loofe was reported missing November 16 when she didn't show up to work.

Meyer has been retired for three years but had a strong connection to the Loofes - she also taught Sydney's mother, Susie, then later was a colleague of Susie's in the Neligh-Oakdale Public Schools.

Those who knew her called her a caring and kind person, who enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. "Thus they remain persons of interest".
