GM announced Tuesday that it's launching a new Marketplace app for its MyLink infotainment system that will allow owners to purchase goods or services from participating brands via their vehicles' touchscreen displays.

Initial partners include a diverse group of large companies such as Starbucks (sbux), ExxonMobil (xom), and Wingstop.

GM's Chamorro said the average American spends 46 minutes a day while driving, and its Marketplace is aimed at drivers who want to make that time more productive. GM says around 4 million drivers will be able to access the feature immediately, a figure that's expected to rise over the next year.

Bloomberg reports that Deborah Hersman, president of the National Safety Council, has said GM Marketplace will increase driver distractions. Marketplace can also be used to purchase 4G LTE Data packages, extend OnStar subscriptions, and receive discounts and offers on GM services and accessories. Customers can "expect to see more service promotions coming through the platform", Chamorro said.

Drivers or passengers can select the Marketplace icon through the vehicle's infotainment system to select food, fuel info, and more with just a few swift taps on the screen.

GM, however, says Marketplace is created to be a safer alternative to placing mobile orders with phones.

Trump, #MeToo Movement On Short List For Time 'Person of the Year'
His investigation has resulted in charges against four people tied to the campaign, including former Trump adviser Michael Flynn. This movement prompted millions of women to speak out about sexual assault and sexual harassment that they had experienced.

By leveraging real-time interaction data such as location, time of day, and a driver's established digital relationship with third-party merchants and combining them with smart machine learning capabilities, Conversable will enable merchants to offer highly personalized experiences through Marketplace.

Six restaurant chains are prominent among the first brands available on the Marketplace platform. The feature will be made available through a simple tap of the button on a GM car's dashboard, which the vehicle retailer believes will allow for a smoother and safer commute for drivers. Yes, GM owners can now order and pay for chicken wings from their dashboard. Dunkin Donuts, Applebee's, TGI Fridays and IHOP are set to be featured alongside a list of other food options.

- IHOP, allowing to search for nearby restaurants and order from your vehicle.

GM says no customer data will be shared with vendors with the customer's consent. GM will get paid for placing a merchant's application on its screens, and "there's some level of revenue sharing" based on each transaction, he said.

Shell, Exxon-Mobil, Starbucks, TGI Friday's, and Priceline are among the companies you can choose to work with on "Marketplace".
