Jeremy Hunt tells Facebook to ‘stay away from my kids

If a parent deletes a Messenger Kids account, Facebook will also erase the data they collect, but the company notes that messages and content sent to users before the deletion may remain visible.

Joining the chorus against a messaging app exclusively for kids from Facebook, British Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has warned the social media giant to stay away from his children. With Messenger Kids, she said, Facebook has thought through what's appropriate for kids.

The health secretary accused the company of "targeting younger children" after Facebook announced on Monday that it was conducting trials of an app called Messenger Kids in the USA, which is created to be used by pre-teens.

"It's hard for them to grasp concepts like privacy, who is using their data, or insight into how they might be manipulated through persuasive design - and they are really just starting to build awareness about their identity, role in relationships, and morality", she said in an e-mail.

Federal law prohibits Internet companies from collecting personal information on kids who are below 13 without their parents' permission; as well the feature imposes restrictions on advertising to them.

Shea Patterson granted permission by Ole Miss to seek transfer
Freeze resigned over off-field issues - including allegations that he repeatedly made phone calls to escort services - in July. Bjork added that citing a rules violations case from more than 30 years ago "is not applicable to our current case".

He was joined in his criticism by leading children's society Barnardo's, which said the firm is targeting kids too young to use social media responsibly. The narrowed app was designed after consultation with hundreds of parents and several children's advocates, such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Facebook said. "For the significant minority of parents who are tech skeptics, they will probably want to steer clear".

Then, authenticate your child's iOS device using your own Facebook username and password. As with Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat, children can add filters or playful drawings to the photos they send.

"My advice: Until you see Zuckerberg's kids using it, stay away", McLane wrote in a public Facebook post.

Loren Cheng, product director for Messenger Kids, said Facebook would not use for marketing purposes the details it collected from children. According to a release, Facebook plans to release the app on other platforms such as the Amazon App Store, and the Google Play Store.

But some online safety experts say many kids under the age of 13 are already on social networks. The service will not allow for the children to add their own friends or even deleting messages - only parents can do that.
