Bill O'Reilly, Fox News Sued for Defamation by Female Accuser

One of Bill O'Reilly's former accusers sued him and Fox News on Monday for allegedly defaming her and breaching their settlement agreement.

"In fact, Mr. O'Reilly is the liar", according to the lawsuit, which was filed in federal district court in Manhattan. Bernstein had complained about abuse, non-sexual in nature, by O'Reilly when she worked at Fox. The statement by Fox News is deliberately misleading and in breach of Fox's agreement not to disparage Ms. Bernstein.

"He's gone far beyond that and painted our client in a awful light", lawyer Neil Mullin told WaPo, claiming that O'Reilly violated the 2002 settlement case by implying that Bernstein's claims were politically motivated, Variety reported.

"Knowing Ms. Bernstein and O'Reilly's other victims are afraid to speak out because he and Fox forced them to sign nondisclosure agreements, O'Reilly and Fox have made false and disparaging claims", Mullin, her attorney, said in a statement.

The complaint, filed in NY federal court, also addresses statements from Fox News this past April.

Trump, #MeToo Movement On Short List For Time 'Person of the Year'
His investigation has resulted in charges against four people tied to the campaign, including former Trump adviser Michael Flynn. This movement prompted millions of women to speak out about sexual assault and sexual harassment that they had experienced.

Since Fox News cut ties with O'Reilly-just weeks after the Times published an April report detailing the numerous settlements O'Reilly and 21st Century Fox made regarding sexual harassment-he's taken numerous occasions to question the credibility of the anonymous women and reiterate his total innocence. She said she talked repeatedly to bosses about O'Reilly's actions, but there was no hotline in place at the time of the incidents.

O'Reilly was sacked on April 19 from Fox News after a 20-year run at the cable network. Shortly thereafter, the woman, Rachel Witlieb Bernstein, left the network with a payout and bound by a confidentiality agreement, people familiar with the deal said. He was the network's top rated personality for most of that time.

Bernstein said there was no hot line in existence at the time of her employment.

Subsequent statements by O'Reilly are alleged to have violated the nondisparagement clause, according to Bernstein.

A Fox News spokesperson and representative for O'Reilly did not respond to a request for comment. She was constrained out of her activity at Fox News and paid a settlement in light of his abuse.
