Space oddity: Tesla auto heading for Mars onboard first Falcon Heavy Rocket

Always willing to up the stakes of an already hard situation, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said the first flight of his company's Falcon Heavy rocket will be used to send a Tesla Roadster into space.

"Payload will be my midnight cherry Tesla Roadster playing Space Oddity". It's a more powerful rocket that the company hopes to use for missions to the Moon and Mars.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk seems quite excited about the upcoming launch of the company's first Falcon Heavy rocket-the big follow-up to the company's Falcon 9 rocket that basically ties three of them together in a horizontal configuration to create more than 5.1 million pounds of thrust at full power.

Falcon Heavy rocket is a part of SpaceX's fleet along with Falcon 9 and the Dragon spacecraft, to colonize Mars by 2024.

Shkreli's Wu-Tang Album, Picasso Eyed for Forfeiture
In his eBay listing, Shkreli said he has not "carefully listened to the album", and the work remains the subject of intrigue. Even after being convicted , Shkreli struggled to repress his quirky instincts and to stay off social media.

Musk has a net worth of about 19.5 billion dollars.

SpaceX earlier posted an animation detailing the capabilities of the huge new booster, which Musk boasts has twice the thrust of the next largest rocket.

According to Space Flight Now, the Falcon Heavy still has to pass some major hurdles before Musk's planned Ziggy Stardust stunt in January, however.

If all goes well, Musk's little red Roadster will soon be sent soaring into the cosmos, forever enshrined in orbit around Mars. Currently, Falcon 9 can bring just over 50,000lb to lower Earth orbit. Musk is hopeful it actually makes it up into the air, partly because his vehicle may (or may not) be part of the Falcon Heavy's initial cargo.

Musk has spoken openly about the non-zero chance that the Falcon Heavy will explode during its first flight, and because of that he once said he wanted stick the "silliest thing we can imagine" on top of the rocket. Not that the first humans on Mars will be able to drive it.
