Apple accuses Qualcomm of patent infringement in countersuit

Apple accuses Qualcomm of patent infringement in countersuit

It's all very complicated, but this is common practice in the courts; deny a claim and then put forward a paper trail which proves there was no basis for the claim in the first place. (NASDAQ:AAPL) marked a countersuit against QUALCOMM, Inc.

The Apple patents cover technology that ensures that each part of a phone's processor draws only the minimum power needed, turning off parts of the processor when they are not needed and making sleep and wake functions work better. Companies like Apple have this routine of filing and receiving technology patents but that is only there is to it. Apple started seeking those patents several years before Qualcomm started seeking the patents it claims against Apple in this litigation.

The obvious solution to the spat over battery life patents is for Apple and Qualcomm to cross-license each other's patents, but with emotions still running high no such outcome is likely soon. As you might have guessed, it's once again another patent dispute where Apple thinks Qualcomm is breaking the law.

Google Datally Android app gives fine-grained mobile data control
The app also tells users when they're near to a public Wi-Fi spot, allowing them to logon and save on their monthly data package. Datally is obviously a major play at capturing those next billion users that many global internet giants are after.

Patent infringement has been Qualcomm's main offensive tactic in the courtroom fight. Two of those were related to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 and 820 processors, which powered Samsung phones and Google Pixel phones. Apple reported that it is looking for unspecified damages from Qualcomm. (NASDAQ: INTC), a move that led Qualcomm to file a complaint with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to ban importing iPhones using the Intel chips due to the alleged patent infringements.

In January, Apple charged Qualcomm for patent royalty rebates of around $1 billion that latter purportedly withheld from Apple.

Qualcomm already filed a series of similar claims against Apple back in July, again asking for payments and for a ban on iPhones.
