Man Shot at Arlington Mall After Pulling Out Fake Gun

Big Tobacco Finally Tells the Truth in Court Ordered Ad

A day after a police officer-involved shooting frightened holiday shoppers and forced evacuation of the Parks at Arlington mall on Sunday afternoon, police said the suspect, William Paul Dodd, 21, had dealings with them two days earlier in which he threatened to shoot officers. He was pursued by mall security and then an on-duty police officer who was working with one of the Department's retail units.

The mall is now being evacuated by security and people are able to return to their vehicles. "There's no training in the world that officers receive that will enable them to do that, so this is a very unfortunate incident." said Lt. Cook.

Anyone at the Parks Mall is able to go to their vehicle. "Just made sure there were no kids close to the kiosk." he said.

The department's Chris Cook said it's too hard for an officer to differentiate a real versus a fake gun during a pursuit. Police believe during that time Dodd drove to the Parks Mall. Police say they're reviewing surveillance video.

Cold start Monday with another pleasant & sunny afternoon
A cold front will slip through the Midwest start Wednesday , bringing an increase in cloud cover. Wednesday , temperatures will be back to the mid to upper 60s with lovely , sunny skies.

"In the call Mr. Dodd claimed that he was a suspect in an evading arrest call", said Cook.

Two officers gave pursuit through the crowded mall after identifying the suspect, who had allegedly stolen two pairs of sunglasses.

Cook said the department has seen imitation weapons circulating for quite some time and "serious conversations as a society need to be had as to why the imitations look so real, including talks directly with manufacturers".

Dodd is at Medical City Arlington in critical condition.
