Louisville fires Johnson, rules Bowen ineligible

UofL: Brian Bowen will not play, Kenny Johnson fired

Louisville freshman Brian Bowen, confirmed as the player alleged by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to have received up to $100,00 from apparel sponsor adidas in exchange for a commitment to the Cardinals, will not be allowed to re-join the Louisville basketball team. Bowen's father allegedly received $100,000 in a pay-for-play. 'He has endeared himself to his teammates and the men's basketball staff with a positive attitude during a very hard period'.

While Bowen won't be able to play basketball at Louisville, he will not lose his academic scholarship if he stays at the school, ESPN reported.

Louisville's Athletic Association officially fired Pitino "with just cause" in October - almost three weeks after the school acknowledged that its men's basketball program was being investigated as part of the federal corruption probe.

Last month, Bowen's attorney Brian Setchen expressed optimism that Louisville would consider reinstatement.

After reportedly considering a number of other colleges besides Louisville, Bowen shocked college basketball fans by declaring his intention to play for the Cardinals in June.

Trump declares North Korea a state sponsor of terrorism
Neither Trump nor the State Department specified Monday which acts of terrorism and assassination the North had supported. It requested a determination as to whether such acts constitute support for worldwide terrorism.

Cardinals teammates and interim AD Vince Tyra were complimentary of Bowen throughout the investigation that resulted in the upheaval of Louisville's coaching staff. Johnson was reported to be the assistant coach that helped arrange the payments from adidas to Bowen's family.

Bowen, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Saginaw, Mich., was a five-star prospect coming out of high school.

An affidavit presented October 16 by Pitino's legal team before Louisville's Athletic Association - which hours later fired the Hall of Fame coach for cause after 16 seasons - stated that he "had no part - active, passive or through willful ignorance in the conspiracy described in the complaint". It also suspended Bowen from the team.

The announcement from U of L on Wednesday means Johnson's contract is terminated.
