Mother Sini Arrested For Child Endangerment

After 3-year-old Sherin Mathews was found dead last month and her father, Wesley, was arrested in connection with her death, the country naturally assumed the case would be winding down.

Wesley Mathews remains in jail on a felony injury to a child charge.

Officials swarmed and scoured the area in search of the child, finding her body on October 22 in a culvert less than a mile from her home.

Wesley Mathews told police that Sherin was refusing to drink her milk.

She is being held in the Richardson jail on a charge of abandoning or endangering a child, a state jail felony.

An official statement by Richardson PD says charges were brought when investigators found evidence that on Friday, October 6 - the night of Sherin's disappearance - Sini and Wesley Mathews left the 3-year-old home alone while they took their other daughter out to dinner. The theory is supported by a receipt obtained by police that showed the couple purchased only one child's meal in addition to their individual meals as well as the testimony of a waiter who said only one child was present at the table. Additionally, Richardson police confirmed both Wesley and Sini Mathews' cell phones records placed them at the restaurant.

While Sini's arrest does not directly tie her to the death of her daughter, the latest twist in the investigation has at least one neighbor disgusted.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner still has not determined the cause of Sherin's death. Her bail has been set at $250,000. He's a Dallas native and a graduate of the University of North Texas.

Wesley Mathews, Sherin's father, admitted to placing his daughter outside their at 3 a.m.as punishment for not drinking milk.

. Those results will be made available when complete, police said.

The toddler was reported missing later that night. The parents went to a restaurant with their biological child on that fateful evening for dinner, leaving Sherin, a special-needs three-year old, alone at home, which put the little child in "imminent danger of death" according to the police.

Sherin's death prompted External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to ask the Indian Embassy in the USA to be actively involved in the case and keep her informed.

The child began to choke and a short time later she died, the father told police. He stated she was still in the kitchen when they got home, the affidavit said.

When they returned, Sherin, who police said had developmental issues and limited verbal communication skills, was still in the kitchen.
