OnePlus 5T flagship starts at $499, launches November 21

OnePlus 5T Goes Official with a 6-inch Edge-to-Edge Panel and Face Unlock Feature

The successor of the OnePlus 5 comes with a fancy new design and better specs. The 5T is fractionally taller and wider than the 5, but it features the same rounded edges and same button placements as its younger sibling. OnePlus says its proprietary charge feature can cram enough juice for a day's use into a dead phone in just half an hour. The phone will go on sale on November 21 at select regions. In India, the phone will be available via OnePlus stores and Amazon India. There's a full evaluation coming, but it may be that the 5T won't be the high-end phone to pick if you want the ultimate smartphone camera, despite its relentless "Shot on OnePlus" social media campaigning. The immersive full view display measuring 6 inches diagonally puts OnePlus at par with other 18:9 aspect ratio smartphones in the market. From its design to minor camera tweaks, the OnePlus 5T seemed to impress many.

When the OnePlus 5 arrived earlier this year, it was the closest the company had ever come to its original "flagship killer" mantra.

Even though the experience doesn't dramatically differ from other Android customizations, it's just a bit shocking that it's launching with Android 7.1.1 Nougat - rather than Oreo, much like its contemporaries.

The front facing 16 megapixel camera has been retained but it has picked up some new tricks. Well OnePlus has also added Face Unlock feature that uses 100 identifiers to make sure you are you before unlocking. OnePlus has ditched the telephoto lens to make way for a larger aperture sensor, which now makes a 20MP + 16MP setup with the same f/1.7 aperture.

OnePlus 5T vs 5: specs, pricing, release dates

The £449 OnePlus 5T is an upgrade on the five-month-old OnePlus 5 in the same way the 3T was to the 3 a year ago.

There is no waterproofing of any kind, nor any form of wireless charging. OnePlus has incorporated an electronic image stabilization feature into the rear camera that works when shooting 4K, 30-FPS video, as well.

There's a fingerprint reader on the OnePlus 5T, too, but it's been moved from its placement on OnePlus 5 because of the 5T's reduced bezel size. The screen also has thinner bezels. The combination of these two sensors are somewhat different from the "zoom" approach and uses the second sensor to combine pixels and reduce noise in low-light situations. First and foremost, the most noticeable change between the two phones is the display as this will be the first thing you see when you open the box. It's still got top-of-the-line specs with a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB/8GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB of storage, Dash Charge fast-charging, and 16MP selfie camera.

With improved aperture, OnePlus claims the 5T is its best ever phone for low light photography. The company has also now confirmed at the unveiling on Thursday in NY that the 5T has the thin bezels that give the 6-inch screen a larger screen-to-body ratio that are so in right now, and dual rear cameras. OxygenOS's support for fingerprint gestures lets you swipe down to pull down the notification shade, and long press while inside the camera app to take a photo.
