Hackers Claim They Cracked iPhone X's Face ID with This Cheap Mask

Face ID beaten by mask, not an effective security measure - Top News - Bkav Corporation

To further test it, Sherwani tried registering her face again a few hours later, to replicate the indoor, nighttime lighting conditions in which she first set up her iPhone X. The problem returned; Ammar unlocked the phone on his third try this time. A lot of them have failed despite spending tons of time and resources.

A Vietnamese firm claims to have created a mask which can beat Apple's face ID system into unlocking the iPhone X. The firm called Bkav created an elaborate mask through 2D and 3D configuration using a printer.

Ngo Tuan Anh, Bkav's vice president, gave Reuters several demonstrations, first unlocking the phone with his face and then by using the mask.

The new technology has passed nearly all the security tests with flying colours; until a security firm called Bkav allegedly created a mask to beat the FaceID.

The frame of the face was created with 3D printing, with the nose being produced by a third-party artist and moulded in silicone.

Russians Offered To 'Send Five Women' to Trump's Moscow Hotel Room
After accompanying Trump to the room, Schiller said he waited outside for a few minutes and then left, CNN reports . Later that night, Schiller, a former NYPD cop, said he and Trump had a good laugh about the incident.

'It does not matter whether Apple Face ID "learns" new images of the face, since it will not affect the truth that Apple Face ID is not an effective security measure.

Paul Norris, senior systems engineer for EMEA at Tripwire, pointed out via email that Bkav also hasn't said how much tweaking was necessary before it got the mask to work; if the attempt was not immediately successful, it makes the chances of a successful attack very low indeed. The mask faces an iPhone X, which is placed on a stand. Bkav said it would reveal more in a press conference later this week.

"His face is smaller than my wife's face and the geometry of their faces don't match, at least to human eyes", said Malik in the blog post. Apple wrote in a white paper on Face ID that it is smart enough to know when it's looking at a mask. In most cases, the iPhone X was able to tell apart between identical twins. Bkav explains the method requires detailed measurements or a scan of the user's face, making it too advanced for your average hacker to take advantage of. Apple has claimed that it was working on a fix to ensure that identical twins can't fool the system.

The family says they don't want to disable the Face ID, but that they are concerned about privacy.

So should iPhone X users be anxious?
