Arab League to meet on Iran at Saudi request: Diplomats

Paris, according to the spokesman, should remain "realistic, fair and farsighted" over "sensitive developments in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf regions".

The Iranian statement came after the French President during a visit to Dubai said that he is very concerned over Iran's ballistic missile program and stressed the need to start negotiations on it. He raised the prospect of possible sanctions with regard to those activities.

The United States accused Iran on Tuesday of supplying Yemen's Houthi rebels with a missile that was sacked into Saudi Arabia in July and called for the United Nations to hold Tehran accountable for violating two U.N. Security Council resolutions.

"We would like to see sanctions on Iran for its support of terrorism and sanctions on Iran for violating the ballistic missile resolutions of the United Nations", Adel Al-Jubeir, Saudi minister of foreign affairs, told CNBC Thursday.

In his interview with the Time magazine, Macron also appeared to be supporting Washington's position on Iran's ballistic missile capabilities.

"The French president perfectly knows that making such claims against the Islamic Republic of Iran fits no reality of the past decades' realities in the Middle East", highlighted the Iranian diplomat.

Rail and bus strike woes
Britain has faced its worst travel chaos in decades as rail staff staged a walk-out in protest over driver-only trains. Many services will not be affected, but others will be cancelled, replaced by buses or busier than normal.

Iran denies the allegations and says its missiles are needed for self-defense and that its nuclear program has purely peaceful aims.

Iran's nuclear deal saw sanctions imposed on Tehran lifted in exchange for limits on its atomic program.

Paris is a signatory to the Iran nuclear deal, which was also signed by five other major powers, namely the US, Britain, Russia and China plus Germany, to roll back Tehran's nuclear program in return for easing the global sanctions. The move faced a serious backlash back then, including from France, which stated it would stick to the deal.

U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to pull out of the deal, refusing to recertify that Iran is complying with its obligations and violating the "spirit" of the accord.

Moscow fears that dismantling the JCPOA would jeopardize global security.

He said the ballistic missiles are defensive and unrelated to a nuclear agreement with world powers.
