TripAdvisor is now labeling hotels where sexual assaults have been reported

The publication's report, however, focused on Iberostar Paraiso: at least three women said they were raped in the resort's premises. The badge is red and placed at the top of these hotel listings.

Last week, the Journal Sentinel published its report on TripAdvisor's removal of reviews in which travelers claimed they had been raped and sexually assaulted at Iberostar Paraiso Maya, a resort located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. "We do believe the first version of this badge is created to be a catalyst for consumers to do additional research outside of TripAdvisor if our reviews may not readily communicate issues related to health, safety and/or discrimination issues, and spur a traveler to do a keyword search in TripAdvisor reviews".

'These badges are meant to be informative, not punitive'.

A representative for the site told the Daily News that three hotels in Mexico have been badged since Wednesday.

"These badges will remain on TripAdvisor for up to 3 months; however, if the issues persist we may extend the duration of the badge". But hotel experts warned the badges could be hugely damaging to hotels who had false or unsubstantiated claims made against them.

Early this month, TripAdvisor was widely criticized for removing a 2010 review written by Kristi Love on Iberosar Paraiso Maya, a beach resort in Mexico.

U.S. gymnastics star Aly Raisman reveals abuse by former team doctor
In the Sunday show 60 Minutes , which was broadcast on Friday, Aly Raisman said that he had undergone the first "treatment" of Dr. More and more women have recently spoken out against him, including another Olympic gymnastics star, McKayla Maroney .

The badges will be added or removed based off an "employee committee", and TripAdvisor will never take down a business listing, regardless of the number of complaints.

TripAdvisor is also rolling out a new policy on communicating with users about why reviews or forum posts are rejected.

One woman told CBS News' Tony Dokoupil about a horrific experience at a Mexican resort that TripAdvisor initially refused to post. Made it to a lobby. "'No, we're not going to call the police, ma'am, '" she recalled in her conversation with the outlet. Love says she left only after the hotel promised to pursue the case against her attacker, a promise she says evaporated weeks later.

Love attempted to post about the assault on a TripAdvisor forum, but found that it was deleted for violating their "family-friendly" policies.

Within five years, two other women had reported that they had been raped at the resort.
