Charlotte air traffic controller arrested for having weapon of mass destruction

Paul Dandan was charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction on November 11 in Charlotte N.C

An air traffic controller at a North Carolina airport was arrested after he was found to be in possession of a homemade explosive device, police said. George Dandan, who worked at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, was arrested Friday and charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, acquiring a weapon of mass destruction, and transporting a weapon of mass destruction, WCNC reports.

The two men were released from Mecklenburg County Jail early Saturday - Fells shortly after 2 a.m. and Dandan shortly before 9 a.m. - according to the Mecklenburg County Jail website.

Paul George Dandan, the 30-year-old FAA employee, was arrested along with Derrick Fells, 39, on Friday night. Dandan had some kind of explosive, which was not at the airport, sources told the Charlotte TV station.

Officials haven't said exactly what type of device Dandan is accused of owning.

CMPD officers responded to a 911 call on November 3 in reference to a person being in possession of a homemade explosive device in the 300 block of Minitree Lane.

FBI Russia investigation looking into Rohrabacher meeting with former Trump advisor
Authorities said the meeting allegedly occurred at an upscale restaurant just a few blocks from Trump Tower. Lawyers for Mr Flynn labelled the allegations "outrageous" and "false".

'He did not have access to any aircraft at the Airport'.

Weapons of mass destruction are described by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as any device "designed or intend to cause death or serious bodily injury through the release, dissemination, or impact of toxic or poisonous chemicals, or their precursors".

Fells admitted to police that he built the weapon to use on a neighbor he had a dispute with, but changed his mind and gave the bomb to Dandan, according to WBTV.

Dandan was also charged back in 2015 for assaulting a woman, according to the newspaper.

The Federal Aviation Administration since confirmed Dandan would be barred from the airport permanently. Police say Dandan, an air traffic controller at Charlotte-Douglas, had a homemade pipe bomb he got from another man.
