Patriots claim veteran TE Martellus Bennett off waivers

GREEN BAY WI- JANUARY 8 Jared Cook

The Patriots immediately made room for Bennett by waiving defensive end Geneo Grissom, so Allen and third-string tight end Jacob Hollister stay on the roster for now.

After being let go by the Packers on Wednesday, Bennett quickly lands back with New England, where he played in 2016.

The intrigue dates back to last season, when Bennett recorded 55 catches for 701 yards and seven touchdowns with the reigning Super Bowl champions.

The NFC North team has chose to waive the tight end which they signed to a three-year, $21 million contract back in March because he failed to disclose a medical condition.

Details surrounding Bennett's release are already murky, and they're going to get murkier.

The medical condition reportedly cited by the Packers was a shoulder injury that kept Bennett out of Monday night's loss to the Lions.

USA ground invasion of North Korea could cost 'millions' of lives
Dumont also mentioned the possibility that chemical and biological weapons might be used by the North in case of a conflict. North Korea in July launched two intercontinental ballistic missiles apparently capable of reaching the US mainland.

Bennett was signed as an unrestricted free agent last offseason to a three-year deal worth $21m. That's the injury the Packers contend that Bennett failed to disclose.

Bennett was drafted by the Cowboys in 2008. He had 24 catches for 233 yards. In any case, Rob Gronkowski remains entrenched as the Patriots' undisputed top tight end as long as he remains healthy.

"After conversations with my family I'm pretty sure these next 8 games will be the conclusion of my National Football League career", Bennett wrote.

During the season opener against Seattle, Bennett was one of three players who knelt for the national anthem. These next games are for you.

Bennett's next games, assuming there are any, won't happen in Green Bay. The Packers have waived Martellus Bennett, bringing the tight end's short tenure at Lambeau Field to a surprising end.
