Apple shifts augmented reality efforts into high gear

According to those "familiar with the situation" the Apple headset will boast its own display, a newly-designed processor and a brand new operating system.

Apple's hope is to squeeze its graphics processors, AI chip and CPU into a smaller, one-size-fits-all package, akin to what it has done for the Apple Watch, the Bloomberg article stated.

Apple began developing its own augmented reality platform a couple of years ago and that ended up being ARKit, which now live natively inside devices running iOS 11.

It is well known that Cook and Apple feel that AR has much more potential than virtual reality (VR), given how the technology allows for interaction with the physical world rather than immersing people in virtual ones. Oculus, HTC and Microsoft's new "Mixed Reality" headsets are based on VR tech.

"We believe AR is going to change the way we use technology forever" he said on the company's earnings conference call.

USA ground invasion of North Korea could cost 'millions' of lives
Dumont also mentioned the possibility that chemical and biological weapons might be used by the North in case of a conflict. North Korea in July launched two intercontinental ballistic missiles apparently capable of reaching the US mainland.

Bloomberg's report claims that Apple is now using HTC's Vive virtual reality headsets to test out all of its AR-related experiments.

However, Apple has kept the deadline a good two years away and it would seem that Apple's current focus would be to upgrade the existing ARkit and make the AR experience better on its current devices.

I can't wait to see Apple's AR headset arrive.

Apple has always been rumored to be secretly working on a standalone augmented reality device.

Mike Rockwell, who previously led the engineering efforts at Dolby Labs, is at the helm of a team of several hundred engineers from across Apple all working on various hardware and software projects - including the AR headset - under the codename "T288", Bloomber reports. It will then be left with around a year to fine-tune, test and tweak the headset before a public unveiling in 2020. Currently, Apple is looking at touch panels, Siri control, and head gestures. The headset will receive from Apple engineers special applications: from text and maps to 360-degree video playback. Assuming Apple designs something that's cool and comfortable to wear, plus easy to use-which is an area where the company has a history. We could still see some sort of affordable Apple Gear AR device someday, especially if the company falls behind on its plans for the AR holy grail. Apple is said to be discussing the possibility of launching a new type of App Store for the headset where users can download compatible AR apps.
