Rand Paul's injuries from assault more severe than initially reported

Sen. Rand Paul recovering from 5 broken ribs

The man accused of attacking Sen.

"Senator Paul and Dr. Boucher have been next door neighbors for 17 years", Matthew Baker said in the statement.

Boucher's attorney told CBS News in a statement that the "unfortunate occurrence of November 3rd has absolutely nothing to do with either's politics or political agendas".

According to the release, Boucher was arrested by Trooper Bartley Weaver and charged with assaulting Paul, who has been Kentucky's junior senator since 2011.

The conservative Media Research Center, citing the Facebook posts, told subscribers to its newsletter that "Rand Paul's Injuries From His "Socialist" Neighbor May Be Worse Than First Thought".

He was assaulted at his gated community home in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Friday, allegedly by a neighbour who has since been charged with assault.

Rene Boucher, 59, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree assault with a minor injury. Paul suffered five rib fractures, including three displaced fractures.

State police spokesman Jeremiah Hodges said the FBI was on scene to investigate whether the assault was politically motivated but was unable to elaborate on the status of that investigation. Senior Adviser Doug Stafford said the senator is in considerable pain and has difficulty getting around, including flying.

Broadcom may acquire Qualcomm amid existential legal battle with Apple
Qualcomm may soon be extended a way out courtesy of Broadcom , which itself supplies Apple with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combo chips. Bloomberg , which was the first to report the news, said Broadcom has yet to make a final decision on the move.

Paul's communications director said he was "blindsided" by the attack.

"It was a very regrettable dispute between two neighbors over a matter that most people would regard as trivial", it read, one which apparently had "nothing to do with" politics.

At the time of the assault, Paul had "trouble breathing due to a potential rib injury", according to a criminal complaint filed in Warren County District Court.

"He's in some pain, but he's going to be fine", Robert Porter, Pual's friend said and added that Paul's come back to Washington will be a "game-time decision" but Paul is preparing to turn to work at some time in the following days.

Police say Boucher, 59, "admitted going onto Paul's property and tackling him". Boucher is seen here in a photo from the Warren County Regional Jail.

Boucher was released from jail Saturday on a $7,500 bond. Online records state that Boucher's party affiliation is Democrat. Both Capitol Police and the FBI are investigating the incident.

"We are working with our state and local partners to determine if there was a violation of federal law", Habich said.
