Intel, AMD Partner on Chip for Slim, Powerful Gaming Laptops

Intel introduces a new product in the 8th Gen Intel Core processor family that combines high-perform

"Currently, most enthusiast mobile PCs have Intel Core H-series processors plus higher-powered discrete graphics, resulting in systems that average 26mm in height", Intel said in a statement.

This new chip is going to be part of Intel's 8th Gen Intel Core lineup and it brings together the company's Core H series processor with a third-party discrete graphics chip from AMD's Radeon group.

The collaboration is being interpreted as a way for Intel and AMD to counteract the increasing success of Nvidia's GPUs. The executive added that together, they are offering gamers and content creators the opportunity to have a thinner and lighter PC that is capable of delivering discrete performance-tier graphics experiences in AAA games and content creation applications.

Using Intel's 8th generation Core processor and an AMD Radeon graphics processor, the duo are trying to "appeal to serious gamers", according to an AMD spokesperson. Other names are for informational purposes only and may be trademarks of their respective owners. It's only fitting that we have an announcement before the year is out that these rival companies are working together for the first time in decades - it's been a weird year, after all.

China vetoes United Nations move on Azhar
Notably, China was the only country opposing the designation of Azhar by the Security Council as a terrorist. Officials in Beijing told India Today they had "rejected" the application "because of a lack of consensus".

The new chip will be targeted for laptops that are created to be thin and portable, but will also be powerful enough for gamers who need that extra power for intense games.

Remember when we said an Intel chip with AMD graphics inside was just wishful thinking? The collaboration is a showcase for some new Intel tech that allows for smaller, more power-efficient chips.

For now, Intel and AMD aren't giving technical details behind the new chip, like how fast the cores on it will run. At the heart of the design is an embedded multi-die interconnect bridge (EMIB), a small intelligent bridge that allows heterogeneous silicon to quickly pass information in close proximity.

AMD meanwhile has its own integrated CPUs and GPUs known as accelerated processing units (APUs), but again these haven't been able to match the processing power and graphics grunt of an Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU pairing. And while it may not directly compete from a graphics standpoint, Intel is still facing potentially stiff competition from NVIDIA in the machine learning space. It says the Intel chips are designed for intensive gamers where the Ryzen chips can handle games but aren't specifically designed for that goal. Over the months, both Intel and AMD stayed tight lipped on the subject and now, it looks like the rumours were true all along.
