Mukul Roy joins BJP, says it will come to power in Bengal

'Privilege to work under Modi': Ex-Trinamool MP Mukul Roy joins BJP

Among those who were present to facilitate Roy's inclusion in the BJP fold were the BJP president Amit Shah and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who's never missed an opportunity to target his rival parties on corruption.

Roy had formally quit Trinamool Congress last month after he resigned from the Rajya Sabha.

Talking to journalists, Roy said he would be privileged to work under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Roy was considered the number 2 in TMC, next only to TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, and his joining BJP might change the political equations in West Bengal.

The former railway minister was earlier also questioned by the CBI in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.

Addressing the media here, Prasad said, "We are happy to inform that Mukul Roy is joining BJP, we welcome him".

Mukul Roy in his press conference also went on to add that Mamata Banerjee's claims of BJP being a communal party is false and that BJP is a very much secular outfit which promotes peace. Since the time Mamata Banerjee took power in West Bengal, she has emerged as a strong leader and it has become hard for opposition parties to challenge her. BJP has been trying to increase its presence in West Bengal, but it did not have any significant success.

Cracks had begun to surface in the relationship between Roy and Banerjee with the rise of her nephew Abhishek Banerjee as the next generation leader of the party.

First College Football Playoff Rankings of 2017 Season to be Released Tuesday
Every one of those teams made the championship game in the BCS era or the playoff in the CFP era, except for Auburn in 2004. I think Clemson could be ranked ahead of Notre Dame, but it depends on how good the committee thinks NC State is, as well.

Roy, a founder member of the Trinamool Congress, quit the party on September 25.

Roy told journalists on Friday that "restoring democracy" in West Bengal would be his priority. "With his entry, we are certain the BJP will expand further in West Bengal".

TMC has been accusing him of hobnobbing with the BJP.

"Without BJP, the Trinamool Congress could not have established itself".

The CPI (M), however, viewed the development as a tacit understanding between the TMC and the BJP. "He will act as a bridge between the BJP and the Trinamool", said Omprakash Mishra, AICC member and a general secretary of the Congress in Bengal.

"Today a veteran public figure and political leader, Mukul Roy has joined BJP".
