Philadelphia Eagles trade for Jay Ajayi

Jay Ajayi

The Eagles acquired Pro Bowl running back Jay Ajayi from the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, making a major splash on the day of the National Football League trade deadline.

A fifth-round pick of the Dolphins in 2015, Ajayi played in 31 games and gained 1,924 yards, scoring nine touchdowns. The Eagles now have a 7-1 record and are in first place of the NFC East.

As the trade deadline approaches on Tuesday, the Eagles will be expected to make more moves. This is not the first move the Eagles have made to improve their running game.

Israel destroys tunnel from Gaza, killing seven Palestinians
The IDF said that it was still under active construction by Hamas at the time of demolition. Ashraf Al Qudra, a Gaza Health Ministry spokesman, said five people were killed.

The team's workload at the position has come from LeGarrett Blount, who has had a fine season. Wentz himself is a running threat, and there are also talented and underrated backs in Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement.

In addition, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald also claims that Ajayi had not "bought in" to what the Dolphins were trying to accomplish this season, and Jeff Darlington of ESPN suggests that Miami was concerned about Ajayi's knees, claiming they "don't believe he has much left".

The news comes just days after Dolphins head coach Adam Gase was highly critical of the Miami ground game following a 40-0 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football. Ajayi has struggled mightily this season as a member of Miami, but most of the blame can be given to the poor offensive line since he hasn't shown the knack for making the explosive plays like he did past year.
