Marisa Harris

Her boyfriend, riding in the front passenger seat, grabbed the wheel and was able to steer the SUV safely off the road, authorities said.

Marisa's parents told that she was a student of the Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, pursuing a master's degree in the domain of clinical counseling.

Harris was driving a Ford Escape when the boy jumped from an overpass above the freeway. He was not injured in the incident. The boy was rushed to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to her mother, Leigh Harris, her daughter "wanted to help kids" like the one whose apparent suicide attempt left her dead Saturday, WUSA reports.

The Virginia State Police's spokeswoman, Corinne Geller told that Marisa was killed with an impact of the fall.

Harris graduated from Towson University with summa cum laude honors and was a 2013 graduate of Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring.

"She was fearless; she was absolutely fearless", he said, according to the Washington Post.

The father added that Harris came from a "long line of psychologists", since her grandfather also practised the profession, and said that the nature of her death was "the irony that we're looking at right now".

In a statement reported by The Baltimore Sun, Towson University spokesman Ray Feldmann called Harris "a caring, giving person who meant to devote her life to helping children in crisis".
