NAACP slaps American Airlines with travel advisory, warns Black travelers

Briana Williams 24 claims she was booted from a delayed American Airlines flight after an argument about getting her baby stroller back

The NAACP is warning African Americans that if they fly on American Airlines they could be subject to discrimination or even unsafe conditions.

The organization described four examples in particular - including one in which it said an African-American woman and her infant child were removed from a flight from Atlanta to NY after she asked if their stroller could be retrieved from checked baggage before she left the plane.

Now, the NAACP has issued a travel advisory for Black people flying with American Airlines. "We really don't want to have that same kind of an experience to continue - great time to make a correction".

In another incident cited by the NAACP, a black woman's seating assignment was switched to the coach section despite booking first-class tickets, while her white companion's seating assignment remained unchanged.

The NAACP did not give names of the people involved in the incidents or indicate when they took place, and American did not comment on the specific allegations.

An African-American woman and her baby were removed from a flight when the woman asked that her stroller be retrieved from checked baggage before she got off the plane.

"An African-American man was required to relinquish his purchased seats aboard a flight from Washington, D.C.to Raleigh-Durham, merely because he responded to disrespectful and discriminatory comments directed toward him by two unruly white passengers", the NAACP said of one incident.

Malayalam Filmmaker IV Sasi is No More, Dies At Age 69
His first directorial venture, " Ulsavam " (1975), a love story, starred by Vincent and late Sreevidhya and was a hit. In his early days, the filmmaker aspired to be an art director but soon after started to assist other directors.

The organization did not detail every complaint it had recorded, but it did point to four specific incidents, which all involved African-American passengers being forced off American Airlines planes over the past year and a half, which, it said, suggested "a corporate culture of racial insensitivity and possible racial bias on the part of American Airlines".

The NAACP issued a travel advisory for the state of Missouri this summer, citing the state's record of racial bias in traffic stops, among other things. It has reached out to the NAACP to meet with its leaders and listen to their issues and concerns.

The CEO of American Airlines reacted to the news Wednesday, sending a letter to all 120,000 employees of his airline. The plane returned to the Atlanta terminal after a five-hour delay. We expect an audience with the leadership of American Airlines to air these grievances and to spur corrective action. The statement did not go into details about the incidents raised by the NAACP.

Johnson said the national travel advisory concerning American Airlines will continue until the group's concerns are addressed.

This isn't the first high-profile domestic travel advisory issued by the NAACP. It was the first such alert the NAACP had ever issued for a single state.

American Airlines CEO Doug Parker sent an internal memo to American staff addressing the controversy, which was provided to Bustle by the company.
