Tampa police say 3 killings in 11 days are linked

Brian Duga, the chief of police, told the public in a news conference that officers were on patrol in the area when they suddenly heard a gun go off.

The deaths, which took place in the same neighborhood over the past 10 days, prompted Tampa police to warn residents in the Seminole Heights neighborhood not to walk alone at night.

On Friday, police released surveillance video from October 9 of a man seen walking in the area when the first victim, Benjamin Mitchell, 22, was shot to death.

According to Tampa's police department, The latest murder was on Thursday night after 20-year-old Anthony Naiboa, an autistic man, was murdered in the southeastern side of Seminole Heights neighborhood, while coming back from work.

Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call the police. After they canvassed the area, one of the officers found Naiboa.

Police asked that anyone with any other information about the crimes to come forward.

The first victim, 22-year-old Benjamin Edward Mitchell, was shot on October 9 near a bus stop a block away from the most recent shooting, and died from his injuries at a hospital. She was shot and killed.

Naiboa was found dead 200 yards away from Mitchell's home.

Cops blanketed the area after the initial slayings, but it was not enough to prevent the sidewalk murder of the third victim, Naiboa. Police said these three people were killed at random. Thee murder victims in just 10 days, all within a few square blocks of each other.

Police are not labeling the suspect as a serial killer at this point, and they are frustrated with the unsolved cases, Dugan said. The person, who was walking alone near the area and time of the murder, was wearing long trousers, a long jacket and a hood, police said.

"We are still sifting through evidence", he said. "If that brings attention to this, that's fine". It's just hard to see this happen'.

"I just hope that someone in the community can speak out".

"Right now, I'm focused on the families", he said. 'We're not going to be held hostage by whoever's doing this'.

Naiboa's mother, Maria Rodriguez, told Fox 13 that she became anxious when her son wouldn't answer his phone Thursday night.

With people in Seminole Heights on edge following three related shooting deaths on their streets, police have planned a community meeting for Monday. "And, just not tolerate this type of terrorism in the neighborhood".

Last year, there was one murder in Seminole Heights and 14 shootings.
