'My life flashed in front of me': Terrified AirAsia passengers speak out

Leah went on to say that passengers were not informed about the imminent danger and instead just watched frantic flight attendants rushing down the aisles of the plane

For passengers on an AirAsia flight from Australia to Indonesia, their worst worries came true, as the cabin lost air pressure and the aircraft had to quickly drop from its height of 32,000 feet to 10,000 feet and deploy oxygen masks from the ceiling 25 minutes after takeoff.

She said the cabin crew were panicking but passengers were left in the dark.

"Now, I get it, but we looked to them for reassurance and we didn't get any, we were more anxious because of how panicked they were", said passenger Clare Askew.

"We were more anxious because of how panicked they were".

"There was no real panic before that, but then everyone panicked", added Mark Bailey, another passenger.

Data from FlightRadar, a website which tracks flights globally using GPS, shows the plane descended 7,250 metres in the space of nine minutes.

After arriving back at Perth Airport, passengers described a chaotic scene.

In a statement, Air Asia said its engineers at Perth Airport were assessing the aircraft.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said it was investigating the depressurisation, according to reports.

Flight traffic information shows the drop in altitude for the flight.

The incident comes just months after a flight from AirAsia was forced to return to an airport over an engine failure.

Another passenger told the Seven Network that the flight crew said emergency, the crash positions and that was it. Reports say the plane plunged almost 24,000 feet in less than ten minutes.

'We were all pretty much saying goodbye to each other.

The panicked flight crew reportedly announced that there was an emergency. "The masks fell down and everybody started panicking", another passenger, Leah from Perth said.

A passenger called Leah told reporters that she even messaged her family and said good bye and just hoped that they would receive it.

An AirAsia flight over the weekend plunged 24,000 feet, causing some of the crew to panick, which upset passengers, over what was later determined to be a technical issue, according to CNN.

In Dec. 2014, an AirAsia flight between Surabaya to Singapore crashed into the Java Sea.
