Trump blasts ESPN host Jemele Hill in morning tweet

Mic Wakeup Meryl Streep tears into Weinstein customers boycott Dove and ESPN suspends Jemele Hill

The morning after ESPN said it has suspended Jemele Hill over a tweet suggesting her followers boycott advertisers of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Donald Trump celebrated on Twitter. On Sunday, Hill tweeted that fans who disagree with Jones should target the team's advertisers and not but Cowboys merchandise. Hill wrote if fans were upset with Jones' ultimatum they should target team advertisers, rather than placing the burden exclusively on the players.

ESPN did not punish Hill at that time, and Hill did not apologize.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders responded to Hill's tweet about Trump by calling it "a fireable offense".

President Trump was up early Tuesday, mocking ESPN a day after the cable sports channel suspended sportscaster Jemele Hill for violating the company's social media policy.

Hill would later express regret about making those comments in such a public way, saying they only "expressed (her) personal beliefs".

Trump has for weeks criticized players and teams for their protest, which he has claimed disrespects the American flag and anthem.

It also limits cooperation between local police forces and federal authorities in operations to track down undocumented immigrants.

If viewers turn away from the Cowboys after Jones made it clear his players have no choice but to stand for the national anthem before games, it would hurt ESPN's bottom line.

Other Republicans have recently called for the National Football League to lose millions in tax incentives as a result of the protest. So there's some truth to Trump saying ESPN has "tanked", but the reality is market forces much larger than Jemele Hill are the primary reason for that.

'I asked @VP Pence to leave stadium if any players kneeled, disrespecting our country. "If you feel strongly about [Jerry Jones'] statement, boycott his advertisers".

Activism group Color of Change and others are urging people to call and tweet ESPN to show that they're behind the journalist.

US Vice President Mike Pence, who attended match between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday, walked out of the stadium after almost 20 players of the visiting knelt during the anthem.
