Audit triggers extra help to close the ethnic jobs divide

Theresa May challenged by black student over stop and search

The racial disparity audit, which May had commissioned just after she took office a year ago, gives an "unprecedented insight" into how people from different minority backgrounds face a "postcode lottery of outcomes" just like the unemployment rate for ethnic minorities being nearly double that of white British adults in the UK.

The first national survey of its kind found huge gulfs in experience of health, housing and education, which also varied based on geography. Only 54 percent of White British youngsters and 13 percent of White Gypsy and Roma children meet the same target.

But those from poorer backgrounds suffered most, with just under a third (32%) of white British children on free school meals reaching the expected standard. Chinese pupils had the highest attainment throughout school, made the most progress and were the most likely to stay in education and go to university.

In employment, the rate of white people in work is higher than that of ethnic minorities - with a larger gap in the North (13.6%) than the South (9%).

The figures were revealed on a new Government website set up to document the way people from different ethnic grounds are treated by public services.

The Prime Minister is understood to call on the government and institutions to "explain or change" the disparity. "These issues are now out in the open", she told a private meeting to launch the report, according to her office.

It includes never-before-published statistics as well as new analysis using previously available data. Departments would have to "explain or change" areas of their work where different racial groups received differing levels of service.

Journalist Kim Wall's head is found
The main suspect of his murder, the name of that Danish inventor Peter Madsen , denies killing her, claiming an accident. Police said that Madsen killed her, dismembered her body and strapped to the torso of the pipe, to hide the crime.

Mr Javid insisted the Conservatives were the right party to tackle issues revealed by the audit, despite their fall in popularity amongst black and minority ethnic voters at June's General Election.

'We are concerned that the prime minister's remarks last week about the racial disparities audit presented an overly pessimistic picture of modern Britain.

While 85% of white people reported a sense of belonging, 84% of Asian respondents and 81% of black people also agreed to strong feelings of Britishness.

"Over many years the Prime Minister has shown a real desire to grapple with the scourge of racism including confronting high levels of BAME Stop and Search, BAME deaths in police custody and now this". "Tackling inequality will need the devotion of all her ministers", he said. That Pakistani women are "shockingly badly integrated" into British society is one of the facets of the study that was trailed ahead of publication, and was reported on by Breitbart London.

Calling the audit a "comprehensive and coherent race equality strategy", David Isaac, chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, said that the report must be used tackle the "entrenched inequality" in the United Kingdom, and to set the foundations for real change.

Simon Woolley, director of Operation Black Vote, said: "Yes, some findings make uncomfortable reading, but unless these things are laid bare we can't begin to resolve them".
