Tom Petty dead

U.S. rocker Tom Petty is reportedly clinging to life in a southern California hospital after conflicting reports that he had died.

Petty, 66, who suffered bouts of drug and alcohol addiction in the 1990s, was felled by a heart attack.

According to celebrity news source TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, Petty was found unconscious at his home in Malibu, California, on Sunday. When he arrived at the hospital, it was determined that he had no brain activity and was pulled off life support on Monday.

USA rocker Tom Petty was reported on Monday, Oct. 2, to have died following cardiac arrest. "He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends", Dimitriades wrote.

Tom Petty's music classified as rock and roll, stoner rock and heartland rock.

Petty had just wrapped his latest tour, which ended at the Hollywood Bowl last Monday.

The tour was full-blown, including 53 shows in 24 states. I don't think so.

The Saint-Charles station is the same one where four Americans studying overseas fell victim to acid attacks last month . But officials also took pains to emphasize the circumstances of the attack were far from clear.

As a solo artist, Petty had hits such as "Free Fallin'", "American Girl" and "I Won't Back Down".

Petty also took part in The Traveling Wilburys, a supergroup featuring Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison.

Revealing his true inspiration of being a band member, Tom Petty in an interview had said that he knew he wanted to be in a band the moment he saw the Beatles on "The Ed Sullivan Show". The outlet said it received information from the Los Angeles Police Department, but the department later said information was "inadvertently given to some media sources".

He struggled with heartbreak and drug abuse, revealing in his 2015 biography that he abused heroin in the 1990s.

Petty, however, talked about looking forward to spending time with his grandchildren.

2006 was my first "Roo" and I watched the set from the risers next to the stage giving me a birds eye view of the sea of people that stretched as far as the eye could see. But this was the thing that made me want to play music. "With a little kid, that's a lot of time".
